Scanning is a function of a Space ship. Space Ships and other functions can be found here. This allows a ship to 'perceive' its surroundings.
This is a default feature of all ships.
Descriptions
It uses ship sensors to Scan its surroundings for other ships and objects of interest. You can have the Ship Sensors Scan a planet or moon or even other ship to found out more details about it. To Scan a target ship more precisely, so that you know more about the ship then that it exists for example its cargo hold, then take a -4 to attempt to scan inside the ship. You cannot attempt to make a more precise check without first knowing the ship exists. A ship can scan any target roughly within a 100 AUs of itself. But can only precisely scan for something within 1AU.
A Scan for a ship is against a ships detectability. Without a cloak a ships detectability defaults to its size. If a ship turns off its engines and attempts to 'run silent' it gets a -4 to its detectability. (In this case a minus is a good thing).
Tech 3 and 4 scanners by default has 200 AU range for scanning and 2AU for precise scanning.
Scan upgrades require hard points.
- Associated Ship Attribute: Sensors
- Roll: d20 + Sensors Mod + Class Level
- Price: Scan upgrades base price is: $50,000
- Procure Diff: Scan upgrades have 0 as a default procure difficulty.
