In Future Path Character's can gain an advantage or disadvantage on any particular action. An advantage is anything that gives a bonus to a combatant. A disadvantage is simply anything that is a detractor/penalty for a combatant, in other words the opposite of advantage. Usually the action is too attack an opponent but Advantages or Disadvantages can also apply to skill checks and saving throws.  
Sometimes a Character will find themselves in a situation that makes preforming a task easier or harder. For example aiming at a target that is [[Conditions#Entangled|Entangled]] gives the person aiming an advantage to there accuracy check. However trying to hit a target that has an ultra-bright flood light behind them would give the shooter disadvantage. Usually advantage or disadvantage is associated with an action too attack an opponent but they can also apply to skill checks and saving throws. The most common use of Advantage is when a Player rolls an accuracy check with a weapon the Character has proficiency with.

An Advantage or Disadvantage is shown by adding or subtracting from a d20 roll. The +/- is determined by rolling an Advantage die. By default all the Advantage Die is simply the Character's Affinity Die. So whenever a Character has an Advantage or Disadvantage the Player rolls 1d20 + Affinity Die(For Advantage) + (Other normal modifiers). However as Characters level up so does the Advantage dice.
All Characters have an Advantage Die they can roll in these situations that represents a boost or detractor from there chances of success. As Characters level up so does the Advantage Die. The die levels are shown on a per Core Class biases [[Core_Class|here]]. At level one all Characters start out with no Advantage Die. They are too inexperienced yet to take advantage of the opportunities that may arise. At second level they get the first level die which is 1d2. Advantage Die has levels as shown in the table to the right. Advantage Die can be one die or even two die at higher levels.


The 'short hand' for Advantage Die is XAd. Example: A level 8 Character will roll: 1d20 + 1Ad + Modifiers.

Also the first Disadvantage simply removes the bonus Affinity Die if the Player where able to use Affinity. If they where not able to use affinity and had Disadvantage then they go ahead and roll for Disadvantage.

Anything that provides and Advantage or Disadvantage too a Character will state that it does. For example most Conditions provide disadvantages. And in the Combat section there are lots of situations that a Character can be in that provide Advantages such as Flanking or High Ground.


There are all sorts of times an Advantage or Disadvantage may apply. The Combat rules is one place. Many different conditions can effect a Characters Advantage. Also many items in the General Equipment page provide bonuses or negate Disadvantages. Lastly some Talents or Feats can effect a Character Advantage.
